The foreign exchange market Forex- FX, or currency market

Share This: The foreign exchange market  Forex- FX, or currency market Forex is a global decentralized market for the trading of currencies. This includes all aspects of buying, selling and exchanging currencies at current or determined prices. In terms of volume of trading, it is by far the largest market in the world.[1] The main participants in this market are the larger international banks. Financial centres around the world function as anchors of trading between a wide range of multiple types of buyers and sellers around the clock, with the exception of weekends. The foreign exchange market determines the relative values of different currencies.[2] The foreign exchange market works through financial institutions, and it operates on several levels. Behind the scenes banks turn to a smaller number of financial firms known as “dealers,” who are actively involved in large quantities of foreign exchange trading. Most foreign exchange dealers are banks, so this behind-the-scenes market is sometimes called the “interbank market”, although a few insurance companies and other kinds of financial firms are involved. Trades between foreign exchange dealers can be very large, involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Because of the sovereignty issue when involving two currencies, forex has little (if any) supervisory entity regulating its actions. The foreign exchange market assists international trade and investments by enabling currency conversion. For example, it permits a business in the United States to import goods from European Union member states, especially Eurozone members, and pay Euros, even though its income is in United States dollars. It also supports direct speculation and evaluation relative to the value of currencies, and the carry trade, speculation based on the interest rate differential between two currencies.[3] In a typical foreign exchange transaction, a party purchases some quantity of one currency by paying with some quantity of another currency. The modern foreign exchange market began forming during the 1970s after three decades of government restrictions on foreign exchange transactions (the Bretton Woods system of monetary management established the rules for commercial and financial relations among the world’s major industrial states after World War II), when countries gradually switched to floating exchange rates from the previous exchange rate regime, which remained fixed as per the Bretton Woods system. The foreign exchange market is unique because of the following characteristics: its huge trading volume representing the largest asset class in the world leading to high liquidity; its geographical dispersion; its continuous operation: 24 hours a day except weekends, i.e., trading from 22:00 GMT on Sunday (Sydney) until 22:00 GMT Friday (New York); the variety of factors that affect exchange rates; the low margins of relative profit compared with other markets of fixed income; and the use of leverage to enhance profit and loss margins and with respect to account size. As such, it has been referred to as the market closest to the ideal of perfect competition, notwithstanding currency intervention by central banks. According to the Bank for International Settlements,[4] the […]

Forex Anxiety

Share This: Forex — The Anxiety Is Killing Me! It’s tough, isn’t it? Having an investment out there and being patient enough to just let it run its course is something that is difficult for even the most seasoned of veterans—but especially so for those trading on the Forex! The Forex, or Foreign Exchange market, is where nations, investment banks, and other investors come to exchange currencies. Nearly two trillion dollars exchange hand in a given 24-hour period of trading (the market is open 24 hours per day, Sunday through Friday) making the Forex the largest and most fluid market in the world. Investors love the Forex because it is simple and has plenty of opportunity for profit thanks to its volatility. However, while those fluctuations in exchange rates can lead to large profits—they can just as easily zero out an account! In fact, they can cause losses to mount even faster than potential profits because Forex accounts tend to be highly leveraged—as much as 100:1—or even more in some cases! Fear, greed, even faith—all of these very basic and real human emotions play very huge roles in the decisions made by investors. The fear of loss is a very real and valuable human emotion meant to help us evade danger and survive—but it can kill you when it comes to trading on the Forex! Every investor on the Forex—every single one—will lose from time to time if they trade long enough. The market is always right and we humans can never achieve this level of perfection—not even the investment gurus like Warren Buffet get it right every time. Like it or not, investing is a gamble—a calculated risk. Investors increase their odds of success on the Forex by identifying the most profitable currency pairs with the least volatility and then place stops with their order to insure against catastrophic loss. However, even with brilliant technical analysis and the best investment strategy, a loss is going to happen. Fear can play two damaging roles at this point: Fear can either scare the investor away into not investing again; or, it can compel the investor to “get back in” on a position quickly in order to make their losses back. In both cases, fear is now guiding investment decisions and will ultimately lead to missed opportunities and potentially greater losses. Backtesting is a common tactic practiced by many of the top investors on the Forex market. To do this, an investor creates a theoretical portfolio performance history. This is accomplished by applying current asset criteria to the hypothetical portfolio and then evaluating the accuracy of the strategy. How accurate is it in predicting price movements? If you can consistently identify long term trends using the strategy at least 70% of the time, then the theory has merit. You do not need to backtest forever before investing again but definitely continue this practice while investing on the Forex in order to further refine your strategy and test its effectiveness. Whatever you do, […]

Thinking About Trading On The Forex Market?

Share This: Thinking About Trading On The Forex Market? Many people say that trading forex can be a very difficult endeavor, but that is only true if you don’t have the proper education or aren’t properly informed. Like anything, you need to know the right steps to trade forex in order to be successful. This article contains a number of tips that will help you on your way to trading forex. Examine other trading systems, and use them to build your own. If you find that most systems in place are not ones you want to use, you can pick pieces that you like from each one to create your own system. For some traders, this can take years, but a healthy profit gain is worth the time. When devising your Forex trading strategy, do not make it overly complex. Too much complexity in your strategy will mean that there will be many more factors that you will need to keep track of. For the same reason, there will be more things that can go wrong. Do not underestimate the value of a simple strategy. With a simple strategy, you can easily see what is working and what is not working. You need to keep up to date with the market: make sure you read about the current situation everyday. Finding information can be hard because a simple internet search brings up so many results and you might not know which websites to trust. You should visit Bloomberg, Reuters or Hoover’s websites for reliable information. When you are trading Forex, it is important to remember not to be impulsive when making decisions. Impulsive Forex traders will sometimes make decisions based on their emotions instead of using proper analysis. Using this technique reduces Forex trading to a game and will decrease your likelihood of succeeding in Forex trading. Have patience to wait for the right trade and to stick with a position that is profitable. Although it is not wise to stay in a winning position too long, it is equally unwise to pull out too early. In addition, taking time to wait for the right trade can avoid unnecessary losses. Don’t use your rent money to trade forex. The forex markets are ever-changing and not a good place to invest if you have no other money available. Save your rent money and only invest if you’ve got the extra cash to do so. Desperate trading will only cause you to lose money, anyway. When trading, try to avoid placing protective stops on numbers that are obviously round. When you do have to place a stop, make sure to put it below those round numbers and on short positions instead. Round numbers include 10, 20, 35, 40, 55, 60, 100, etc. As was stated at the beginning of the article, trading forex can seem difficult and intimidating, but is much easier to do if you are equipped with the best knowledge and information. If you know the right steps to trade […]

How To Make Money On The Foreign Exchange Market

Share This: Amazing Tricks On How To Make Money On The Foreign Exchange Market Foreign currency exchange trading is a tempting pastime, not unlike skydiving. It can be extremely exciting, and few people dare to take it up. And just like skydiving, forex trading requires thorough preparation and education to avoid disaster. This article presents a few tips that can help a forex trader steer away from a cataclysmic crash. A good thing to know about forex trading is that it is a zero sum game. This simply states that if there are 60% of people investing long term then that means that there are 40% of people that are investing in the short term. People concentrating in short term investments usually have lots of money. When starting out in Forex, it’s best to stay close to home. The easiest culture to understand, and therefore the easiest currency to trade in, is Canadian. Since the Canadian dollar moves in similar trends to the American dollar but with fewer extremes, it makes a good low-risk investment currency. Use short stop losses to ensure you don’t make any mistakes in a Forex trade. Set them at the risk level you are comfortable with and then let them stay put! If you do this every time you trade you will ensure only small loses and permit larger gains over time. Some unethical brokers might offer biased charts to push you to buy or sell. You should always check the source of a chart, and make sure it comes from an approved broker. If you have any doubts, don’t trust a chart, especially if it is free and advertised in an insistent way. Always set goals for yourself. The amount that you are going to trade does not really make a difference; as with any business, you need to have an idea of what you want to accomplish to be successful in Forex trading. If you do not set goals for yourself, you may make impulsive decisions, which can lead to mistakes. When discussing the market with other traders, it is great to get their opinion about how things are going and where they think the money is going to be at. Do not trade on their opinions alone. Take the information that they have given you and analyze it with the charts to see if they may be on to something. Keep your cool as you are trading. Do not get over excited when you win a lot or lose a lot. It will keep you from thinking clearly and there is a good chance that you will lose everything that you won or that you have. Do not over trade and shake your money management. Don’t get into Forex trading unless you have a good amount of capital to trade. Market action should be the driver behind your trading decisions. When financial circumstances cause you to alter your trades, you may have trouble staying in the market when it temporarily goes against […]

Trading Forex? What’s That?

Share This: Trading Forex? What’s That? Foreign exchange (FOREX) trading, simply put, is the concurrent buying and trading of different worldwide currencies. Established in 1971 as an interbank, interdealer market, it has grown into the single largest financial market in the world at trades of roughly $2 trillion per day. Today, the average individual can sit at home and trade on the Forex 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But as must be noted about trading on this worldwide currency exchange, such investments carry a high level of risk. After careful consideration of an investor’s level of experience, financial objectives and acceptance of the risk involved, Forex trading education is absolutely necessary. In order to essentially grasp a workable understanding of the market, traders must be familiar with the history, strategies and related gimmicks found all over the Internet. The idea of becoming a successful Forex trader leaves millions of personal investors searching for a magic, money-making answer. Unfortunately, most new traders fail within the first year and, in the meantime, lose thousands of dollars learning the basics of Forex trading education the hard way. Thousands of dollars are spent on profitless educational programs, fast keys to success and software that systematically cannot do the trading in place of the investor. In essence, the answer to making money trading in this market isn’t just a magic word, a computer program or an ounce of luck. It takes quality forex trading education from a knowledgeable, reliable, experienced source. Success on the Forex lies in learning and implementing precise, straight-forward strategies that are practical and proved over time. It takes a practical, forex trading education program designed to help traders understand the price momentum of the Forex use that in a way that suits individual financial situations, risk tolerance levels and personality. Forex trading education cannot and will never be a magic, money-making formula. It isn’t a software system that tracks currency price shifts or other investor’s moves. It is a broad understanding of the market, a personal understanding of the investor’s goals and willingness to work in obtaining them and the experience that comes with trading. A good forex trading education package must include home study training courses, live online or on-site classes and weekly live market Web instruction to really stand apart. Practice and repetition are necessary to understanding the trading process and constant, available interaction with trading pro’s and veterans must be implemented in the learning process. A properly educated trader understand the significant details of how the currency market works, why the prices fluctuate and how to capitalize on its volatility and price momentum swings. Without a basic understanding of the major currencies involved on the Forex, successful trading will be significantly hindered. Understanding the top-traded currencies like the U.S. dollar, the Euro and the Japanese yen will leave traders with more options in buying or selling, and therefore, will lead to increased exposure and experience because these currencies are considered the most stable. In addition, […]

Make A Living Trading Forex

Share This: How To Really Make A Living Trading Forex Trading on the foreign currency exchange is a tempting investment opportunity. Be wary! The forex markets are not for the faint of heart, or the ignorant. To become a successful forex trader, you need patience, confidence and most of all, education. Fortunately, your forex education can start with simple ideas like the ones in this article. Watch out for the political factors in your forex analysis. You can rather easily predict the financial situation of a country over the long term, but the political world is unpredictable. If you believe there is a strong risk of political unrest in a country, do not trade in this currency. On the forex market it is tempting to respond enthusiastically to good news for a country by trading in its currrency. This is a mistake. Mainstream news is ultimately external to the forex market, and has not nearly as much to do with the trading as does the activity of the market itself. Good news for a country does not always mean good news for its currency – invest accordingly! Avoid trading in the forex markets on Monday unless you spot a highly lucrative opportunity. In general, Monday trading activity is tentative, with lots of minor, contradictory trades and low-activity stretches. In this environment it is especially hard for you to read the trend of the market, and trading without knowing the trend is dangerous. Make sure you choose a time to trade that works for you. Trading when you are overly tired or stressed is never a good idea. You will not want to take the time to make sure you are doing the best thing with your money. Choose a time when you have the energy and concentration that you need to succeed. One important Forex fact to keep in mind is that every currency pair has its own unique behavior. While there are overall strategies every trader can apply to every market, the wise investor will be careful not to treat every pair as equal. Trade in a new pair should start out cautious until the trader is comfortable with the pair’s particular idiosyncrasies. If you wish to get into forex trading, ensure it’s for the right reasons. You can’t start in this business because you want to get rich quickly or because you need to make money. You should consider it a job you do for fun, which just happens to make you some money while you do it. Use the live trading signals from Forex traders to your benefit. It can help you to discover what methods of analysis and informational study that they use. Only follow their leads if you are looking to learn how they do what they do, not to just find the right trade to take. Forex trading is neither a get-rich-quick guarantee nor a money-sucking shell game. Diligent traders make plenty of money through forex trading and they do it with hard work […]

The Importance of Forex Trading Education

Share This: The Importance of Forex Trading Education If you want to succeed in any endeavor, you need to have persistence and dedication. Even your daily life requires it because if you’re the type of person who is quite lazy and wants to goof around, you’ll attain nothing of importance in your life. Ever since you were a little kid, you were already taught with the value of good education. From your nursery days, until you finally graduate in college, you have dedicated many years to get a good education. But it doesn’t end there. Each time you encounter a new endeavor, activity, or thing, the first to come into your mind is to learn about that particular thing or activity. So you see, no matter what we do, education continues. And this is especially true with forex trading. Statistics have shown that over 94% professional traders lose a lot of money every day in forex trading alone. But don’t be discouraged; in fact why not use that piece of information to strive hard to get a forex trading education. The financial market changes by the minute, or even by the second. Who knows which currencies are a good buy and which aren’t. Most traders, specially the starters, believe that they can predict what is about to happen in forex trading. But you see there is more to predicting the market; you need to educate yourself still. First things first, you must have a forex trading system which contains the key elements, namely: money management, risk, and execution. If you have a well developed system, which gives a lot of weight to money and risk management, over time you can actually carry on draw downs while expecting consistent returns. Forex trading is not just about buying low currencies and then selling them when the price is high. Profitable traders can teach you more than just discipline, because you also need to learn about detachment. Ask a professional trader to show and guide you how it is done. You must have the proper mindset in order to be a successful forex trader. To achieve this, your capital should have a positive return. It is not all about profits especially when you’re just a beginner. You should first determine if you have a reasonable return of your capital. Most successful forex traders have undergone some sort of education. Since forex trading is a high risk endeavor, it is not wise to instantly jump into the trade. If you purely rely on experience and instinct, you may not likely succeed in forex trading. But if you have undergone a forex trading education, you are more capable to handle demands and the stress that comes along with the trade. Through forex education, you can learn all about the market mechanics, reading the forex chart, how software works, how it is closed, the right time to bid, and many more. It is the best possible route to take before plunging into forex trading. The FX […]
